2021 Summer Letterbox Adventure

Preservation Parks

Get ready for a summer full of exploration! Registration for the Summer Letterbox Adventure begins May 27 and runs through September 6. Please read carefully for exciting changes! Preservation Parks’ staff has worked diligently over the last several months to make this year’s adventure fun and safe for everyone. This includes making touch-less letterbox locations, which have been replaced by hidden animal plaques. Registration is 100% online through 1.) Powell Community Summer Concert Series

Friday, July 30th,, 6-9 PM

The traditional Powell Festival will be held as a three-part summer concert series instead of a one-time annual weekend of festivities this year. The concert series will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, June 25, July 30 and Aug. 27 on the McClurg Properties Stage in Village Green Park, 47 Hall Street. The first weekend of the series will include a Downtown Powell Street Market presented by the Powell Chamber of Commerce and Fireworks on Saturday!

6-9 p.m. Friday, June 25 – Entertainment featuring Zack Attack 

9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, June 26 – Downtown Powell Street Market presented by the Powell Chamber of Commerce

10 p.m. Saturday, June 26 – Fireworks Display

Concerts will be held in collaboration with the Downtown Powell Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area (DORA).


Night Under the Stars and Movie

Parks & Recreation and the Library team up this year for a family friendly campout at Wyman Woods. Beginning at 7:00 pm, bring your tents and sleeping bags to set up camp for the night. The night will be filled with camp stories and songs from the Librarians, a campfire and snacks in the shelter house. Movie will begin at sunset! Minors must be accompanied by an adult. No fee; please register all family members attending. 


Take & Make: Harry Potter Sorting Bookmarks @ Grove City Library

Their guiding principles are to support community efforts to control the spread of the virus and lead in the effort to responsibly help get Ohio back to work.

In partnership with the organizers of the Westerville Saturdays Farmers Market, we have modified how we operate as a vendor at this selling opportunity. This includes (but is not limited to) the following as recommended by CDC guidelines:

(1) We will be wearing a cloth face covering

(2) We will be cleaning and disinfecting our hands and surfaces (displays, tables, etc.)

(3) We will be limiting capacity within our selling space to meet social distancing guidelines

(4) We will be using only plastic bags for the packaging and sale of our gourmet-blended dips and no-bake dessert mixes

(5) We will be promoting our online Shop via our Facebook page – this venue provides a quick, easy and safe means in which to place online ordering and delivery and pre-order for pick-up.

Birdwatching for Beginners

If you’ve wondered what birdwatching is about, but can’t even see a bird in a pair of binoculars, this is for you. Bring your binoculars or use ours. We’ll teach you tricks to start or improve upon a fun hobby. Weather permitting, we’ll go on a short hike or ‘arm chair’ bird watch.

Our Birdwatching for Beginners event is free but participants must register ahead of time with the Grange Insurance Audubon Center at: https://tickets.audubon.org/grange

Wild Saturday: Wildlife Conservation Fundraiser at Green Haven Living

Between 1-3 PM, visit with our Wildlife Ambassadors from the Ohio Wildlife Center. Learn how to peacefully coexist with our wild neighbors. A portion of all online or in-store sales from 10-5 on Wild Saturday will be donated to the Wildlife Hospital, which received a record 8105 patients in 2020. Enjoy a visit with the animal ambassadors, support local wildlife conservation and shop local.

Grand Opening for Deer Haven Park Aviary

Sunday, August 1, 1-4 PM

Join Preservation Parks of Delaware County and Ohio Nature Education (ONE) for the grand opening celebration of the Deer Haven Park aviary on Sunday, August 1 from 1-4 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m. Deer Haven Park is located at 4183 Liberty Road, Delaware.

The grand opening celebration will include family activities such as games and crafts, bird merchandise and education, and special guests. As part of the grand opening visitors may get a picture taken with an Eastern screech owl, weather dependent.

The birds on display for the grand opening are two turkey vultures, Igor and Ichabod; two red-shouldered hawks, Henna and Artmis; and two red tailed hawks (pictured above), Bella and Apollo. 


Insect Chorus Walk @Blacklick Woods

Learn what insects can be heard singing either during the day or at night, then take a half-mile walk to listen for them.

Family Day Festival at the Ohio Statehouse Atrium

Sponsored by the Ohio Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission with a presentation of the 2021 Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame awards, the event will feature family activity booths from COSI, Girl Scouts, Ohio Library, Columbus Museum of Art, and others! There will also be Food trucks, live music, statehouse tours, and other family entertainment will occur throughout the day culminating with a free concert by the Columbus Symphony Orchestra at 5:30pm.

Taste of New Albany

Sunday, August 1, 5-10 PM

Taste of New Albany is Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Rose Run Park, New Albany. Presented by the New Albany Chamber, this annual outdoor event features music and menu samplings from area restaurants, caterers, specialty food vendors, craft beer makers, and distilleries.
