A great weekend for lots of nature programs, festivals, trucks, outdoor movies, and of course family fun!  Don’t forget to fill those water bottles with all this hot weather.  4-6 cups of water a day for kids, we learned that today at the Franklin Park Conservatory explore station 😉

🎥Free Movie Night: How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World @ Columbus Commons

Enjoy a free showing of How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World starting at 8:15pm! 

From 5:30 until about 8pm, the park will be closed to the public for a ticketed event. The Columbus Symphony’s Popcorn Pops Movie Music (click here for more info: is sure to be a blast. Immediately following the performance, settle down with a blanket or lawn chair under the stars for a free flick hosted by Columbus Commons.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) is rated NR and is 110 minutes long.

🌳Melissa Lennig – Author Visit and Craft Activity @ Cover to Cover Books

“Sticks and Stones: A Kid’s Guide to Building and Exploring in the Great Outdoors ” author Melissa Lennig has loved the outdoors since she was old enough to make her first mud pie.  After working as an Outdoor Educator and an Elementary School Counselor, she left the classroom to stay home with her children. While at home, she found herself sharing her love of nature and the outdoors with her kids and started writing about their outdoor play activities and nature crafts on her website, Fireflies and Mud Pies. When she’s not creeking or hiking with her kids, you’ll find her behind the camera taking photographs of her kids, insects, or flowers. Melissa loves to read, garden, and visit museums. This is her first book.

Melissa will lead kids in making their very own rock necklaces to take home, as well as a demonstration of how to build a DIY Bug Hotel. Kids will have the opportunity to test it out with pom poms. The kids featured in the book will be assisting the author in her demonstrations.

July’s movie: The Incredibles 2 (PG)

Everyone’s favorite family of superheroes is back in “Incredibles 2” – but this time Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is in the spotlight, leaving Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell) and Dash (voice of Huck Milner) to navigate the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life. It’s a tough transistion for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack’s emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) must find a way to work together again—which is easier said than done, even when they’re all Incredible.
