🌲18th Annual Mohican Wildlife Weekend @ Mohican State Park

The 2019 theme will be, “PICK YOUR PATH”  by exploring the Mohican areas trails by foot, bike, horse, and water. No place offers so many ways to explore the great outdoors in Ohio. The Mohican area has hundreds of miles of trails for many modes of outdoor travel. Over 88 miles of trails by Horseback, 25 miles of trails by Mountain Bike, 4 trails with Natural Waterfalls, and many more miles for hiking and traveling by scenic rivers. 🌳Arbor Day @ Franklin Park Conservatory

Franklin Park Conservatory and Ahlum & Arbor Tree Preservation are partnering to provide a FREE, nature-themed, family-friendly Arbor Day celebration from 10am-1pm Friday, April 26 and 10am-3pm Saturday, April 27 near the entrance of Franklin Park Conservatory. 

Activities include: 

– A chance to climb a tree using professional tree-climbing equipment

– Demonstrations by Central Ohio Woodturners

– A tree-cookie necklace craft

– Free native tree sapling (while supplies last)

– A “touch-a-truck” experience with Ahlum & Arbor’s specialized vehicles

– Educational presentations about tree care, root health, and seed dispersal

– A drawing to win tickets, a class, or a membership to the Conservatory

While the streets will be filled with food trucks, children’s activities and vendors of all sorts, Westerville Visitors & Convention Bureau Marketing Coordinator Glenda Mihaly says the focus will be on the art you will find and the artists who create it.

🏈NFL Draft for Kids @ Ohio History Museum

The NFL will be conducting the third round of their NFL draft in Columbus THIS Saturday, April 27 at the Ohio History Center. As part of the event, there will be FREE registration to a youth football clinic for boys and girls ages 7 to 12.

—The first 250 kids (ages 7 to 12) to register online will get in free to the Ohio History Center (and the Ohio – Champion of Sports exhibit) and will be treated to fun activities outside of the Ohio History Center that will be programmed by the Columbus Recreation & Parks Department, including a  non-contact football clinic for girls and boys, face painting, give-aways, meet and greets with former NFL players and more.

🐑Llama & Sheep Shearing Day @ Stratford Ecological Center

Bring the whole family to Stratford’s llama and sheep shearing day.  Stratford will provide visitors with a woolly experience when the resident sheep and llamas receive their annual shearing.  The flock will be shorn throughout the day, and our shearers will interpret the process from start to finish.  Your family can visit stations to learn how wool is processed.  Participate in hands-on fiber projects, visit the barn and walk the farm.

Search for amphibians off-trail near the Olentangy river. Limited number of nets and containers available. Please bring your own nets and jars. Just a reminder all animals will be released back to their homes at the end of the program. Amphibians need to be released in the same location where they were found. Reminder, this program is off-trail as we search for amphibians in the forest and along the water’s edge. Please dress to be off-trail. Long pants and water proof or old shoes highly recommended. Due to recent rains the area will be very muddy near the river. Ticks are also common in the spring. Please wear insect repellent. Due to the sensitivity of amphibian’s skin, all hands need to be washed to remove bug spray before going on the amphibian search .
